Session Details

Newborn sessions are my passion!  The birth of a new life is wondrous and it is a privilege to be entrusted to capture these first, and ever-lasting, images of your child.  When newborns and their parents come into my home studio in Sammamish, I want them to feel relaxed and at ease, safe and secure in sharing this brand new life with me.  In our newborn session, I do not keep to a scheduled clock for time as every baby is unique and treated that way.  Time will be taken as needed to feed, change, settle and soothe, so both parents and baby are relaxed and comfortable.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.  What you have caught on film is captured forever…it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten them.”    Aaron Siskind

Although we will take as much time as needed, generally sessions are 3-4 hours.  Newborn sessions are done within the first 10 days of life, with days 6-7 being my favorite/preferred.  Sleepy milk-drunk babies take the best pictures.  During this time, newborns are still sleeping through most of the day, they pose and curl up easily, their skin looks great and they tend not to wake during transitional posing.  Certain poses work best in those days, but beautiful images are possible at any age.

Newborn sessions include 2 prop set ups and classic fabric posing, siblings (if applicable), parents individually and parents together.  The entire studio is packed full of beautiful props and handmade items from all over the world that I will use to style your newborn session.  Plan for some images to simply be a classic background fabric where the attention is only on your newborn and others to be more artistically styled with props such as newborn beds, bowls, buckets and more.

Sessions begin at $395 with most clients investing between $600-$1000.  After we’ve confirmed your appointment, I will send you the Newborn Session Prep Guide that explains what to expect before, during and after our session.  I pre-plan your entire session, but always like to know if there is one "must-have" prop, color or setup you would like.

It's never too early to book your newborn session, and the earlier in your pregnancy the better to secure availability on the calendar as I book out months in advance.  Your due date can be a moving target as (you will soon discover) babies keep their own time schedule and it rarely matches with ours!  As such, I hear from parents while they are still in the hospital and we will schedule the session date once baby has arrived.

What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”  Karl Lagerfeld

In studio baby milestone sessions (up to one year old) are different from newborn sessions as there is no "best window" for these pictures and are generally under an hour.  These sessions are distinguished by showcasing the different stages of first year achievements

  • Smiling (0-2 months)
  • Rolling over (3-4 months)
  • Pushing up/tummy time (4-5 months)
  • Sitting up/Sitter Sessions (6-8 months)
  • First toofers - yes, I spelled that correctly - as those cheesy grins showing off their new tooth are just too darn cute! (4-7 months)
  • Crawling (7-10 months)
  • Standing (8-12 months)
  • Cake Smash - 1st Birthday

Babies develop and reach these milestones at different times and this is a general guide.  For the most popular, Sitter Sessions, it is more important that the milestone be confidently mastered vs. the date on the calendar as safety is the highest priority and we don't want to risk a tumble with an unstable baby.

They're only this little for a short while.  You can't stop time, but I can capture it for you.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!  There is something especially beautiful about a woman carrying her precious child.  I love to capture that glow, excitement, anticipation and tender connection between you.

“No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you.  After all, you’re the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside” – Author Unknown.

Maternity photos are usually best captured between weeks 32 to 36, though I've done sessions as early as 28 weeks and, unknowingly at the time, the day the baby was born!  Usually in that 8th month window your tummy is round and you’re still feeling great.

The majority of the maternity sessions are done outdoors year-round taking advantage of the natural beauty where we live, but in-studio sessions are also available for moms who prefer that stylized look.  The studio offers many gowns for your use, or you're welcome to wear your own attire.

Maternity sessions are done during Golden Hour (2-2.5 before sunset, depending on the selected location) and usually last 1 to 1.5 hours.  I am on a schedule and can't stop the sun from setting, so please be on time and ready so we get the most time for your session.

When I close my eyes and think of family photography, I see love, joy and happiness.  When I see your family and children through my lens, I’m taking the pictures of your family that I would want for myself.  My dad instilled a motto in myself, brother and sister of “Family First.”  Growing up in a fabulous, loving family I look back on those pictures (some staged, some goofy) and emotionally I’m reconnected back to that time in my life.

“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.” - Andy Warhol

I book a limited amount of family sessions during the year.  With families and children you can expect both posed and candid shots.  As a parent, we know children are silly, energetic, shy, spontaneous and curious creatures. We all want that “one good picture" over the mantle of the beautifully posed family or child portrait….and we'll aim to get it early in the session.  After that, we’ll let your kids be kids.  Have fun, be silly – run, jump, play.  After all, they ARE kids.  In those moments I’ll capture your child’s true personality – those sweet expressions, natural smiles, genuine laughs, serious looks and dreamy gazes.  After our traditional poses, you just might be surprised that the spontaneous moments when you forget I’m there, turns out to be your favorite “mantle worthy” picture.

Family sessions are done on location at Golden Hour (2-2.5 before sunset) and usually last 1 to 1.5 hours. I suggest giving your child a snack just before you arrive and try to be a bit early to give them time to relax and warm up…or run out some “ants in the pants”.  Bringing a favorite toy or stuffed animal is a great idea too.  I am on a schedule and can't stop the sun from setting, so please be on time and arrive with your children dressed and ready so we get the most time for your session.  Once we’ve confirmed your appointment, I’ll visit with you about location and clothing ideas, usually over the phone, to ensure your questions are answered and the session is tailored to your portrait goals.
